I was gone Friday, so the schedule will be a little goofy for a day.  We started talking about the discovery of DNA, and the scientists who helped with that.  We finished up the genetic diseases table, and looked at a few examples of some of the nondisjunction disorders.  1st hour will finish the genetic survey lab on Tuesday.  I linked the lab below.  Homework:  Read about the discovery of DNA and review scientists involved.  Work on DNA questions.

Human Genetic Survey   DNA questions

We reviewed the punnett square assignment and then discussed some of the genetic diseases.  The punnett square assignment is due next time.  Homework:  Review Ch. 15 & 16 reading.  Work on punnett square problems, and the genetic diseases table.

Punnett Square Assignment    Genetic Disease Table

We finished the probability lab today.  After that, we learned about punnett squares and how they can help determine traits and other aspects of genetics.  If you’d like, you can practice with some of the problems.  Link is below.

Punnett Square practice

Today we discussed the discovery of genetics, and Gregor Mendel.  Read about him below.  We then did the first half of the Probability lab.  If you missed, you can look below.  At the end of class, we turned in Ch. 14.  Homework:  Probability lab, and reading pages 274-281, and work on Ch. 15 & 16

Gregor Mendel    Probability Lab

Today we reviewed the test results and then worked on the A.P. Lab #3.  If you missed, you can do the interactive lab on the pages part of my blog dashboard.  We began talking about genetics.  We also passed out the new key terms and questions for Ch. 14, 15 & 16, as well as the genetic diseases table.  Homework: Lab #3 questions, Reading pages 251-260, Start working on Ch. 14 questions.  Due in 2 classes from now.

Chapter 14 Key terms and questions   A.P. Lab #3, Mitosis & Meiosis

We continued our discussion of cell division today, getting in to Meiosis a little bit.  We also talked about how fertilization occurs, and how organisms go from diploid to haploid.  Homework: Keep working on your mitosis sketches, and complete your mitosis/meiosis table.  Study that.  Reading: Review/finish reading Ch. 13.

Chapter 13 Meiosis notes

We discussed mitosis today.  The emphasis of your studies should be on events that occur in each stage.  We started sketching the pictures on pages 222-223.  Work on that at home.

We began our discussion on cell division today.  We started with how and why cells go from a single cell, zygote, to a full grown person, with hundreds of different kinds of cells.  Homework:  Chapter 12 questions, Finish reading 238-246.

Chapter 12 (Cell Cycle) notes

We finished the A.P. Labs 4 & 5 today.  6th hour didn’t get all the way done.  The questions are linked below.  Homework:  Reading pages 218-225 if you haven’t yet.  Make sure A.P. Lab 4 questions are done.

A.P. Lab 4 & 5 Questions    Chapter 12 key terms and questions

Today we did the second half of the photosynthesis lab.  Students had to examine what had happened, and explain it.  Questions were turned in.  We spent the rest of the day talking about photosynthesis.  We covered the light reaction, and stopped at the Calvin (Dark) cycle.  Plan on the test on Wednesday and Thursday.  Homework:  Study for the test, look at your sketches.  You can also work on the energy test review.
